Fortnite Breaks Master Chief Promise, Makes Matte Black Style Exclusive

After promising players they'd be able to unlock Master Chief's Matte Black Style at "any point in the future", Epic Games has today announced it can no longer be unlocked.
When Halo's Master Chief joined the Fortnite 'Gaming Legends' series in December 2020, a special Xbox-exclusive Matte Black Style became available to those who owned the Outfit and logged in on Xbox Series X|S. Despite being exclusive to Xbox, Epic said there was "no time limit for unlocking the Style" in an official X post.

Today, four years later, Master Chief returned to the Item Shop, but players noticed they did not receive the special black Style after logging in on Xbox. In a strange and unexpected post shared three hours after the Shop refresh, Epic stated, "The Matte Black Style for The Master Chief is no longer unlockable. This Style is limited to players who purchased the Outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S prior to December 2024".
Before the recent Winterfest update, owners of the Outfit could still log into Xbox and claim their free Matte Black Style, raising questions about why this offer has suddenly ended. Strangely, Epic did not attempt to clarify their 4-year-old statement regarding the Style being unlockable "at any point in the future" at all, instead choosing to offer players refunds.
