Fortnite Scraps Square Discover Thumbnails

Epic Games has officially announced their decision to scrap square thumbnails from the Fortnite Discover screen.

Originally launched as an experimental feature of Discover in March 2024, square thumbnails haven't been seen in-game for some time. Epic were quick to revert their changes after negative player feedback, which drew comparisons to Roblox due to the similar design. Despite this, creators have been required to submit square versions of their rectangular thumbnails when publishing their experiences, which lead many to believe Epic could bring the feature back in the future. In an announcement on 𝕏 today, Fortnite's Creator account shared the following post:
No more Square Thumbnails needed for island publishing 📣

We tested them in Discover to see if showing more tiles would boost engagement, but we didn't see a meaningful increase, so we’re sticking with rectangles!
As always, we'll keep you updated.
